I think it would be important to mention here what we mean we talk about Terroir. It is a French expression and often there is no direct translation. There has been a lot of discussion on what this word means but in short ‘Terroir’ is a combination of 4 elements; the soil, the climate, the geography and the human hand. It is said that the greatest expression of ‘Terroir’ are often producers who can convey the characteristics of their region with minimal intervention in winemaking. This month we are getting more micro in our focus and zooming in on small grower-producers or Recoltant-Manipulants and understanding how they achieve ‘Terroir’ expression in their vineyards, what sort of wines and champagnes they produce and what sort of lengths do they go to, to achieve this?
