Produced only in the finest vintages, Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is Pol Roger's prestige champagne, created as a tribute to Britain's legendary wartime Prime Minister and inspired by the style of champagne he famously admired—powerful, structured and beautifully mature. The exact blend remains one of Champagne's best-kept secrets, although Grand Cru Pinot Noir takes the lead, supported by Chardonnay to bring elegance and finesse. Each vineyard parcel and grape variety is vinified separately in stainless steel before undergoing full malolactic fermentation. Following blending, the wine is aged deep within Pol Roger's historic cellars, 33 metres below ground, where the house continues the rare tradition of hand riddling every bottle.
The 2018 vintage is refined, energetic and remarkably elegant. Brilliant gold in the glass with an exceptionally fine mousse, the nose reveals white flowers, citrus, dried apricot, blond tobacco and gentle baking spices. The palate is vibrant yet beautifully layered, offering notes of blood orange, ripe plum, pastry, toasted hazelnut and fresh raspberry, wrapped around a chalky mineral core. Powerful without being heavy, this is a remarkably polished Sir Winston Churchill with outstanding balance, persistence and decades of ageing potential.
