From Humble Beginnings to Iconic House

Founded in 1849 by the remarkably young Pol Roger in the village of Aÿ, the house soon relocated to Épernay — where it remains today. What began as a modest operation producing wines for established Champagne houses evolved into something far greater when Pol Roger acquired its own vineyards and began bottling under its own name. From the very beginning, the focus was on Brut champagne, a style particularly favoured by the British and one that would go on to shape the identity of the house.

A Champagne Fit for a Statesman

No story of Pol Roger is complete without Sir Winston Churchill, one of its most devoted admirers. Churchill famously drank Pol Roger almost exclusively, forging a lifelong friendship with the family and cementing the house’s place in history. In tribute, Pol Roger created the prestige cuvée Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, a powerful yet refined champagne made only in exceptional vintages and crafted in a style he loved — structured, complex, and built to age.
