Frerejean Frères Cuvée des Hussards '12

Vintage 2012

$220.00

Named after the light cavalry of Napoléon Bonaparte, in which the soldiers were the first to use the art of sabring, the Cuvée des Hussards is powerful and expressive.

This cuvee was elaborated from 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir coming from Premier and Grand Cru vineyards older than 40 years old. 2012 is regarded as the vintage of reference of the last decade. On the palate, this Champagne is powerful and well supported by a creamy and delicate foam.

It has scents of white and yellow candied fruits with a note of saffron spice. This is a limited release with only 60 bottles remaining in Australia!

Technical notes

Aged 8 years on lees with a further two years in bottle prior to release. Dosage sits at 7.9 grams per litre which makes it Brut.

Founded in Avize, a village of Champagne ranked as a Grand Cru, the House of Frerejean Frères was established in 2005. Only 10 hectares in size, this boutique production aspires to preserve and respect the unique terroir, allowing the vines and the wines to express the power and the subtlety of the land.

The Frerejean-Taittinger brothers grew up with love and respect for the Champagne tradition. Passionate for oenology, Guillaume, Richard and Rodolphe created their own House of Champagne.

Rodolphe has a lot of flair and style and this is reflected in their champagnes.

"Pale and lively. Straight up the nose. Quite different from the wines so far. More lively and tense but good undertow. Fruit not oak expressed here. Racy with depth and undertow. Vibrant "

17/20 Jancis Robinson

"Pale yellow colour with slightly greenish hue. Delightful nose reminiscent of lemon zest, green figs, greengage, Nashi pear, starfruit and a discreet hint of iodine marine air. On the palate well structured with crisp acidity, lively and fine mousseux, exquisite fruit flavour on the restrained side, distinct minerality. An excellent wine with depth and salivary character."
