What to expect

This is 100% Meunier coming from a single vineyard planted in 1956 called 'La Fontinette'.

What we love about this is it's attractive and complex aroma filled with ripe grapefruit, ginger biscuit and spice however the texture on the tongue is velvet-like, smooth and effortless like water off a ducks back.

The intensity and layers of flavour build in a crescendo with yellow stone-fruit, orange peel and that undeniable wet-stone-mineral charge, enticing you at each moment and commanding your attention. This stands up to top Grand-Marque champagne and delivers in spades. Whilst this was very easy to drink, we would certainly suggest pairing this with some food.

Single Vineyard. Single Variety. Single Year.

Zero dosage. Barrel-fermented. Biodynamic. Only 2,497 bottles made.

$139.00

Club Price $132.05 (?)

Food pairing

The Nowack family has its roots in the Czech Republic, but it has been cultivating grapes in Vandières since 1795. Un until 1915 though, the family's main activity was to produce roof tiles and bricks. When the First World War conscription system was imposed, Ferdinand Nowack decided to produce his own champagne so the sales could provide for the family, whilst he and his son  were at the war front. After the war, they expanded their production and never looked back. Terroir - Caroline Henry. Flavien joined his father in 2012 and decided to make some changes, notably, moving towards tilling the earth, incorporating biodynamic principles and being creating terroir-driven champagne. He studied at Avize univeristy and was classmates with Guillaume Selosse, son of the infamous Anselme and it was he who showed him the differences in soil types and farming methods that encourage personality and expression.

Food pairing

Usually we would be using the acidity and fruit profile to work in with a dish however as this wine is so suave and decadent with a herbal-mineral edge, we would suggest going for a dish with similar richness like a creamy mushroom and herb linguine or homemade Vitello Tonnato - an Italian dish of cold, sliced veal covered with a creamy, mayonnaise-like sauce that has been flavoured with tuna.
