Cuvée No.1 was the first wine produced by No.1 Family Estate. This Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs is lees aged to encourage full yeast autolysis. The wine displays texture, finesse and charm. Typical, complex, Champagne-like characters with savoury layers of citrus and stone fruits.
GOLD Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships 2022
95/100 Cameron Douglas MS
94/100 Sam Kim for Wine Orbit
18.5/20 Candice Chow for Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
"A precise, pure fruited and enticing bouquet with aromas of fresh citrus fruits and white peach melted into layers of autolysis showcasing brioche and baked goods. A delicate silky texture touches the palate briefly before a fine mousse wells up carrying flavours that reflect the bouquet. Youthful and tasty, a wine of charm. An excellent aperitif choice and perfect with oysters." Cameron Douglas MS, September 2022
Hearts in Marlborough since 1980, roots in Champagne since 1684. No.1 Family Estate is a specialist and boutique Methode Champenoise winery founded by Adele and Daniel Le Brun. It is the only winery in New Zealand committed exclusively to producing premium Methode Traditionelle wine. The award-winning winemaker has created wines that rival the best in the world using methods perfected over twelve generations by his family in Champagne.
From a young age, Daniel was immersed in the family business. After studying winemaking and working at the family winery, he visited New Zealand, saw the potential and emigrated. In 1980 he planted the first grapes dedicated to sparkling wine production in Marlborough's beautiful Wairau Valley. Daniel pioneered methods at that time. He saw immediately that the climate and soils of Marlborough create a Methode Traditionelle with crisp acidity that would rival Champagne.
99% Chardonnay, 1% Pinot Noir. 6.4g/L dosage. 18 month ageing on lees, can be cellared for an additional 3-5 years.
