Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot, Veuve Clicquot is one of Champagne’s most celebrated and enduring houses. The true pioneer behind its legendary status, however, was Barbe Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot—better known as Madame Clicquot—who took over the company in 1805 at just 27 years old. In an era when women rarely held positions of business leadership, her bold spirit and inventive mind forever changed the course of Champagne history. Madame Clicquot created the first known vintage Champagne in 1810, developed the riddling table in 1816, and produced the first known blended rosé Champagne in 1818. Her commitment to excellence, innovation, and audacity continues to define Veuve Clicquot’s ethos today, inspiring every bottle crafted in her name.
Nestled in the historic city of Reims, Veuve Clicquot draws on the rich, diverse terroirs of Champagne to craft its signature style. The house places a special emphasis on Pinot Noir, believing it to be the heart of their structure and strength. Across the rolling vineyards and chalky soils of the Montagne de Reims and beyond, Veuve Clicquot carefully selects grapes that embody elegance, richness, and ageing potential. From harvest to shipment, every step of production is infused with Madame Clicquot’s founding vision: to create wines that are as flattering to the palate as they are to the eye.
