Tradition, Diversity & Character
A Commitment to the Future
At Champagne M. Marcoult, everything begins with an intimate understanding of the land. The estate has undertaken extensive studies of its vineyards, including 150 soil core samples, soil pits and precise vineyard mapping alongside an agronomist. This detailed approach reveals an incredibly diverse terroir, where soils can shift from clay to sand within just a few kilometres. Each parcel is understood individually, allowing planting, vineyard practices and winemaking to be adapted to the land and helping every wine express its own distinctive sense of place.
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sit at the heart of M. Marcoult, complemented by small plantings of the lesser-known Champagne varieties Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc. The diversity extends below the surface, with chalk contributing finesse and minerality to Chardonnay, while flint-rich soils lend Pinot Noir greater power and vinosity. The estate also works exclusively with massal selection when planting new vines, encouraging genetic diversity, natural resilience and vineyards better equipped to adapt to changing conditions over generations.
M. Marcoult takes a considered approach to sustainability, holding HVE (High Environmental Value) certification and working to protect the biodiversity of its vineyards. Cover cropping, eco-grazing with sheep, reduced treatments and the use of practices approved for organic viticulture all form part of life at the estate. The vineyard is also self-sufficient in electricity and produces its own fermented nettle preparations. As an Independent Winegrower, M. Marcoult grows its own grapes, vinifies its harvest and produces its champagnes entirely within its own cellar — maintaining control from vineyard to bottle.
