Perrier-Jouët was founded in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas-Marie Perrier, who added the maiden name of his wife, Adele Jouët, to create the house. Established in the heart of Épernay, Perrier-Jouët quickly began to build an international following from its success in exporting to foreign markets.

Early entry to the UK (1815) meant that by 1847 exports represented nearly ninety per cent of House sales.

This European success allowed the family to increase their vineyard holdings, hand-picking land in the Grand Cru villages of Aÿ, Avize, Cramant, Mailly. When replanting vines they focused on Chardonnay, bringing the lightness to the Perrier-Jouët wines which is still a characteristic of the wines today.

The Maison Belle Epoque in Epernay is the private chateau of the Perrier-Jouët family and houses one of the world’s foremost collections of Art Nouveau masterpieces.

A dedicated global campaign to reunite pieces from the Belle Epoque era saw the creation of one of the world’s genuinely unique properties: a living testimony to the era, featuring works from such great Art Nouveau protagonists as Rodin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Lalique, Majorelle and Hector Guimard, creator of the famed Paris Metro iconography.

It is home to many original works by Emile Gallé, friend of the House and designer of the original Belle Epoque Anemone bottle in 1902.

The Perfect Romantic Option: Perrier-Jouet Champagne

Our offering of Perrier-Jouet champagne not only comes with the most romantic history there may be around champagnes, but its production is equally as interesting, to make it one of the most sought-after vintage champagnes on the market.

The founder of this famous brand, Pierre Nicolas Perrier, passionately in love with his wife Adelaide (Adele) Jouet, honoured her contribution to the business by attaching her surname to his to name to form the champagne house Perrier-Jouet.

This was quite contrary to the norms of the 1800s where a woman’s influence or contribution was rarely acknowledged and is considered one of the most romantic gestures associated with the world of champagne.

Two centuries later, its famous romantic heritage is still very much alive, making it one of the most popular Valentine and romantic moment champagnes of all time. Of course, there are many other interesting aspects to this sophisticated sparkling wine from its bottle to its taste.

Not Just Romantic

Romantic is not the only tag attached to this wonderful vintage. Every aspect, from its production right down to its bottling and labelling, stirs the imagination and transports you magically to partake of the legend of its creation.

The Perrier-Jouet champagne is unique in that it is produced from a combination of 20% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot-Noir and 40% Pinot-Meunier varieties of grapes that are harvested from 50 different vineyards, all within the Champagne region.

Its wonderfully designed gold embossed floral bottle represents a masterpiece and is a keepsake in itself that’s worth treasuring. It was painted by Emille Gallée in 1902, the famous art deco painter, and is representative of the feminine influence that was unusual for the day.

As you can see, Perrier-Jouet’s history is as rich and as colourful as the beverage itself. In 1881 it was the most sought after champagne in the world, and it is reported that a vintage bottle sold at a Christie’s auction for a staggering price.
