What to expect

The 'Les Cintres' plot lies at the heart of Clos des Goisses. It offers the most intense expression of this exceptional terroir; its vines, facing due south, benefit from an ideal amount of sunshine all year long.

To the eye, Les Cintres is a light, bright gold colour. Very fine, creamy bubbles and a dense and persistent mousse. It has a powerful and elegant nose combining notes of white chocolate with grilled nut and smoky aromatics. There is fine approach on the palate which is mineral-rich and fresh. The smoky notes are once again apparent, with an exceptionally long finish.

Aged for more than nine years in the Philipponnat's cellars at a constant temperature of 12 degrees celsius to develop maximum complexity and to highlight the wine's secondary and tertiary aromas, which are the hallmarks of extended ageing on lees.

100% pinot noir, 100% first pressed juice form the central plots in Clos des Goisses, Mareuil-sur-Ay.

About the house

About the house

Food suggestion

One of the most underrated champagnes in our humble opinion. Philipponnat is a house of outstanding quality from their entry level Royale Reserve Brut all the way through to their iconic Clos des Goisses Vintages. This premium producer picks fruit with maximum ripeness and focus on pinot noir fruit with power. All this ripeness is balanced with a long, cool fermentation and some wines being blocked from malo-lactic fermentation, whilst being fermented in oak barrels. Careful blending of base wines complete the work of art on non-vintage cuvees with approximately 30% of reserve wines being added. Reserve wines are aged in a perpetual Solera system with new wines being added to older wines every year, continuously adding more complexity and depth to young cuvees.

Food suggestion

This cuvée makes a perfect match for lobster and saltwater fish. It will also go well to enhance white meats as well as stews and cheeses.
