- Grande Marque Louis Roederer

- Fresh, mineral and saline

- 100% Chardonnay; 2013 Vintage

2013 was characterised by a particularly late growing cycle. A seemingly endless winter was followed by a very cool, late spring. We had to wait until the start of July for flowering to begin - something we hadn't seen in Champagne for quite some time! Fortunately, summer was glorious with plenty of sunshine, record high temperatures and very low rainfall, ideal for the ripening of the Pinot noirs and Chardonnays. The temperatures were cool for the October harvest and the resulting wines are elegant and fresh - the signs of a " classic " vintage.

Tasting Notes: spring flowers, honeysuckle, lily of the valley, lemon tree and more concentrated, candied lemon. The nose evolves towards toasty notes, sugared almonds, wheat and cereals, characteristic of the finest Avize Chardonnays. The round and fruity attack gives way to a mineral freshness that is chalky yet also powdery and velvety. There is a hint of cold, humid chalk and a slightly drying sensation which enhances the delicate and well-integrated minerality

Technical details - This Blanc de Blancs 2013 was drawn off at low pressure in order to create a rounder and smoother effervescence. Dosage is 8g/l. 100% Chardonnay with 33% of the wine vinified in oak casks.

This house has serious pedigree and a long history of making outstanding wines. Roederer is still family owned and run and has a significant land holding of over 230 hectares allowing them to supply 70% of their grape requirements with excellent fruit. We are impressed by Louis Roederer’s increasing commitment to exploring biodynamics, both with treatment of their vast vineyard holdings plus the recent acquisition of a 15 hectare biodynamic parcel from Leclerc Briant. A relatively small 3 million bottles per annum of production are exported, largely to the USA.

Take this prestige cuvee to another level and serve with caviar. Take the caviar straight from the back of the hand so that you can appreciate its beauty. Please ensure that the wine is served in an Emperor tulip or a white wine glass to allow the cuvee to show you its true potential.
