Laurent Perrier Harmony

Demi-Sec NV

$89.95

- Sweeter style of champagne using 40 grams per litre of dosage

- Majority chardonnay in the wine keeps it fresh and lively

- Ideal with pastries and a cheese board. Will suit spicier foods too

Richly expressive, it opens with aromas of dried fruit, almonds and hazelnuts, followed by grilled and toasted aromas. After a few years, the nose will evolve towards deeper notes of honey and pine resin.

On the palate: Full-bodied and generous, it is a rich wine with a rounded feel The full-bodied nature and slight sweetness of Demi-Sec naturally calls for sweet dessert dishes and will add depth and flavors to such desserts, especially pastries.

Technical details: Chardonnay 45 % Pinot Noir 40 % Meunier 15 %. Reserve wines at least 10% and sometimes over 20% to ensure perfect consistency in the Demi-Sec. Crus: more than 55 crus used in its composition. Dosage: 40g/L. The wine is dosed with a liqueur made up with cane sugar dissolved in wine from the same cuvée. Ageing: 3 years.

Quite often people do not realise why they like a certain champagne brand. Some houses focus on the pinot noir grape in their champagnes which provides big, round and powerful cuvées and some houses focus on chardonnay which provides more mineral drive, citrus and elegance. If you prefer the latter, then perhaps consider a bottle of Laurent-Perrier as your 'go-to' entertaining wine.

This maison has a serious history but over the last 100 years has had a long line of influential women at its helm (Mathilde Emilie Perrier in 1812 and later in 1938 Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt), and we cannot help but think that this has influenced the style – graceful, elegant and sophisticated. Of the larger maisons in champagne this is more subtle and understated in its profile. This may be to your preference and it is an affordable champagne label.
