What to expect

"Now in its fourth year in the market, this cuvée is in an enticing place in a fresh new disgorgement. From its disposition of calm maturity on release, I’m again surprised and impressed with how evenly it has evolved, upholding its medium-salmon hue and copper tints and its elegant and balanced complexity.

Red cherry, raspberry and red liquorice fruits are evolving evenly as secondary, savoury complexity of anise and roast tomato rises, and enticing, smoky, tertiary complexity begins. A long finish is carried by a textural mouthfeel, mineral texture and soft tannin structure, with dry extract lending subtle firmness. This cuvée continues to blossom with time, and I have never seen it more complex, balanced and irresistible."

Food suggestion

Quite often people do not realise why they like a certain champagne brand. Some houses focus on the pinot noir grape in their champagnes which provides big, round and powerful cuvées and some houses focus on chardonnay which provides more mineral drive, citrus and elegance. If you prefer the latter, then perhaps consider a bottle of Laurent-Perrier as your 'go-to' entertaining wine. This maison has a serious history but over the last 100 years has had a long line of influential women at its helm (Mathilde Emilie Perrier in 1812 and later in 1938 Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt), and we cannot help but think that this has influenced the style – graceful, elegant and sophisticated. Of the larger maisons in champagne this is more subtle and understated in its profile. This may be to your preference and it is an affordable champagne label.

Food suggestion

We strongly feel that Lobster should play a role in the enjoyment of this. Not too much, just a little to offset the powerful Grand Cru presence and tie in with the delicate tannin.
