What to expect

To find truly great Blanc de Noirs, you have to search and be patient. Winemaker Aurelien has certainly been patient prior to creating his debut Blanc de Noirs named 'The Long Way' as it is some 25kms from the winery in Chavot. Produced from a Premier Cru village called Chamery which is south-west of Reims this is 100% old vine pinot noir which has been farmed biodynamically. This is based on the excellent 2012 harvest and the vines are based on clay and chalk. Dosage is ultra low at 4 g/l residual sugar, so expect a fresh, clean style.

What struck our tasting team with this wine, was it's prettiness, lifted red fruits with some blackcurrant leaf and wild raspberry characters. Add to this some gentle, warming spice from the extending barrel ageing of 18 months and a little palate richness from the 19 months on lees and the result is a remarkable wine with great energy, intensity, vinosity and reviving freshness right at the end.

If you are ready to be seduced (or perhaps want to seduce someone special), treat yourself to a bottle of this. Only 2994 produced.

About the house

About the house

Food suggestion

This exciting family estate is located in the south of Champagne in the small village of Chavot - a village that rarely receives fan-fare but it has a worthy grower producing fascinating cuvees in its midst. The 10 hectares of land farmed by the Laherte family are biodynamic and organic with the exception of two parcels which are located further afield in the Cote de Blancs and the Valley De La Marne. Young Aurèlien is the youngest generation of the house is and impressive young winemaker who is working in great partnership

Food suggestion

There is a fresh intensity with juicy black fruits in this wine with enough acidity to pair well with some Pork cutlets plus some baked beetroot for that earthy sweetness and crumbled feta.
