What to expect


This is based on the excellent vintage of 2012 and is a blend 43% chardonnay, 30% meunier and 27% pinot noir. Citrus and clay are prominent to the nose, which opens up to white florals and pear. The palate has a drying texture, well-balanced acidity and fruit with some wet-stone providing an earthy presence. This is a mineral-driven wine as is the style of Jacquesson, expressing citrus peel, apple pith and a long, lean finish. For those of you who prefer the drier side of champagne, sitting at a low 1.5 g/L residual sugar.

Jacquesson are possibly one of the most exciting houses in Champagne right now. Run by the Chiquet family since purchasing the property in 1978, brothers Jean-Herve and Laurent are at the helm and creating a different form of magic in their region of Dizy. Have you ever considered yourself a bit of a 'rebel' or a non-conformist at heart? Are you a perfectionist with ridiculous attention to detail? If so, you will comfortably align with the philosophy and beliefs of the Chiquet brothers. Most, in fact all champagne houses create a non-vintage blend which aims at having a consistent ‘house-style’ year in year out, blending across multiple vintages and reserves to make the wine homogenous even if the year brings in extraordinary fruit. To the brothers Chiquet, they couldn’t quite accept a dumbing down of the wine to suit a style so instead, they decided to work with the best of that given year and change from making their ‘NV’ given the code ‘Cuvée No. 740 (base year: 2012)’ instead. The result is a wine that changes every year and reflects the best of their combined efforts and the offerings of Mother Nature. Cuvée No. 740 accounts for 90% of their production, which sits at 280,000 bottles. Although not organic, they are very hands-on in the vineyard and more non-interventionist in the winery which means, lower sulphur, low sugar addition (extra brut) across the range and no filtration which upholds both body and aromatics.

This smart cuvee would team superbly with a veal cutlet and a polenta mash.
