What to expect

We open up to wild strawberry, fresh mango plus some apricot and honeycomb swirling an absolute storm.

It is somewhat difficult to describe this wine without so many adjectives however in this instance we cannot help it. The palate is immediately voluminous, expansive, powerful yet graceful at the same time. The intensity and texture of both the pinot noir and meunier are ever present here with a little mineral lift from the chardonnay.

The olfactory story continues with apricot brandy, rum/cognac-like notes of dark red fruit, cooking spice, caramel, baked apple and Tarte Tatin meandering their way to a sensual, moreish and exotic finish that goes on for what seems forever. Akin to hypnotism.

Technical details

Barrel-fermented in 450 litre oak casks and then blended into a solera that began in 1982. They refresh the solera each year with the addition of 30% wine. The blend is 45% pinot noir, 45% meunier and 10% chardonnay all 100% Reserve wine.

Extra brut at 3/gl dosage with 2 years on lees.

Food suggestion

On the northern of the Montagne de Reims in Ludes, Francois Huré and his brother, Pierre, run their family estate of Huré Frères, cultivating about 26 acres (10 hectares) of vines. Most of the vineyard work is organic and parcels are vinified separately to preserve their characters. Huré's champagnes combine rich texture with racy acidity, as demonstrated by the non-vintage Invitation, made mostly of pinot noir and meunier. Peter Liem - Champagne

Food suggestion

The sheer intensity of this wine calls for foods with stronger flavours. It could quite comfortably pair with rare beef, smoked meats, charred vegetables or perhaps an earthy truffle & mushroom risotto. The great pleasure in discovery, is to try the wine, see what flavours come your way and think about what you would most like to eat with it.
