What to expect

We fell in love with this wine when we first tried it. It's an unusual Rosé style in that both the chardonnay and pinot noir are fermented together. This isn't the norm in champagne and is a little more involved when it comes to the winemaking. The result is nothing short of marvellous. If you enjoy champagne with vivid freshness, bright fruit and a little grip, then try this.

"Pale, bright orange. Fresh raspberry and orange zest on the fragrant nose, which becomes spicier and toastier with air. Deep, focused and powerful, offering vibrant red berry and candied liquorice flavours and a touch of rose pastille. Gains minerality on the impressively long finish, with the spicy qualities repeating emphatically"

Stephen Tanzer - Vinous

Technical details: Co-fermented 50/50 blend of pinot noir and chardonnay, all from 2012, aged for 30 months on its lees. No oak - instead, enamelled steel tanks and no malo-lactic fermentation. Dosage 4 grams per litre. Disgorged in November 2016.

Food suggestion

One of the more interesting producers of champagne, Geoffroy makes champagnes worth talking about. Taking over the reins of this father Rene, Jean-Baptiste is a talented and passionate wine producer and his fanatical efforts in the vineyard followed by careful craftsmanship in the cellar have made him one of the most revered winemakers in the region. Geoffroy is located in the grand cru region of Aÿ but the vineyards are located in Cumières which is where the vineyard was located up until recently. Red fruit rules here in wine making style which is as close to biodynamic as possible within committing to the rigours of certification. Champagnes that reflect a sense of place with real character and personality are what Geoffroy is known for. We love this producer.

Food suggestion

For a champagne like this, we recommend going for a poached Salmon with pomegranate and herb salad.
