- Iconic cuvée well-known in James Bond in a special format (1.5L).
- R.D. stands for Recently Disgorged and was created by Madame Lily Bollinger
- Extremely limited quantities.
Made of 66% Pinot noir and 34% Chardonnay, this combines the rich, leesy Bollinger character with the flowery, lilting fragrance typical of the vintage.
Its aromas of red cherry, fresh pear and green citrus are accented by hints of almond butter and toasted bread, turning increasingly more savoury as it moves back on the palate, and there's an insistent note of chalk that persists on the finish, lasting as long as the fruit flavors do.
Peter Liem - Like many 2004's, this is already showing well, feeling harmonious and accessible.
Why is R.D. so special?
It is the 25th vintage of R.D., which is always a vintage of La Grande Année that has been held back and given extended ageing on its lees in the Bollinger cellars. Its famous initials stand for Recently Disgorged and was the concept and creation of Madame Lily Bollinger, who launched the very first 1952 vintage in 1967. The company closely guards the amount of R.D. it makes from any given vintage. But both the vintages are rare and quantities are small.
