What to expect

Not all rosés are made equal and in this instance Alfred Gratien have crafted one of elegance and charm. Being more 'old-school' in their wine making approach, they have maintained the house style in being traditional (read 'About the house' below) and captured the vibrancy of the red fruits ever-present in this wine. There is plenty of crunchy red apple, strawberry and cherry rising from the glass and onto the palate. What is most enjoyable about this is the fine grip and presence of minerality and super fine tannin providing a delicate structure and intrigue on the palate, coupled with a creamy and satin-like texture. Still not sure about rosé champagne? You may want to revisit this category and try this. Most of all, rosé loves everyone, guys and girls.

Food suggestion

Based in Epernay, Alfred Gratien are certainly more led towards the traditional approach to champagne production wine making, being; no malo-lactic fermentation (to preserve malic acidity) aged under cork, long ageing (oxidative style) and oak fermentation. They produce approximately 300,000 bottles a year which is considered small in the grand scheme of champagne production.

Food suggestion

The rosé category is quite simply the most versatile within champagne and the options are plentiful. If you like fish, you could go a seared tuna steak (still pink in the centre) with Szechuan pepper and beetroot. Perhaps some yum cha pork buns or crispy duck with plum sauce?
