- The grapes are grown exclusively in the Côteaux de Cumières.

2012 is a solar, intense and generous year, that gave us high quality with grapes of remarkable strength and character, and even more vibrant and generous Pinot Noirs. This year has therefore shown itself to be one of the greatest in history and has given Louis Roederer two wines, a white and a rosé.

Intense aromas of juicy, ripe fruit such as vineyard peach and candied lemon combined with toasty notes and hazelnut. The ripeness of the fruit is revealed through the aromas of baked apples, tarte tatin, caramelized spices and a hint of fresh wood and benzoin.

The attack is juicy and textural. The gentle, velvety smooth effervescence coats the palate before giving way to an intense, saline freshness. This delicious combination gives the wine a lovely intensity further enhanced by excellent freshness and a pleasant hint of bitterness. This intensity overrides the juicy, rounded body and gives way to a clean, direct and remarkably pure finish.

This house has serious pedigree and a long history of making outstanding wines. Roederer is still family owned and run and has a significant land holding of over 230 hectares allowing them to supply 70% of their grape requirements with excellent fruit. We are impressed by Louis Roederer’s increasing commitment to exploring biodynamics both with treatment of their vast vineyard holdings plus the recent acquisition of a 15 hectare biodynamic parcel from Leclerc Briant. A relatively small 3 million bottles per annum of production are exported, largely to the USA.

55% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnay.

Twenty five percent of the wine is vinified in oaks casks. No malolactic fermentation and no dosage. Aged for 5 years in the cellars and left for a minimum of 6 months after disgorging to attain the perfect maturity.

Finesse and power are juxtaposed in this stunning cuvee. Enjoy this wine on its own or serve with an almond crusted halibut fish drizzled with a garlic and lemon sauce.
