The Ultra Brut is bright and aromatic on the nose, some citrus notes, white peach and florals are noted with a light mineral flint. The palate is refined, clean and has great length.
What is Ultra Brut or Brut Nature? It is a category of champagne that is noted for not adding any sugar. Essentially, the Laurent-Perrier team select the parcels of fruit which exhibit the ripest parcels and lowest acidity to find natures harmony. This wine was launched in 1981 and for the team at Emperor, this stands as a great illustration of how to achieve great expression from the vineyards without masking it with sugar. This is a blend of 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot noir. Aged for a minimum of 6 years and is a blend of over 15 Crus.
"Laurent-Perrier has a very long history with zero dosage, having first launched its ‘Grand Vins Sans Sucre’ in the 1800s, relaunched by Bernard de Nonancourt in 1981. Today, this cuvée is champagne’s best-selling brut nature, in a well-balanced and highly strung apéritif style. Clean nashi pear, lemon and grapefruit are accented, with subtle flinty reductive notes and almond meal complexity beginning to build in older disgorgements. It’s razor tight in its lemon-juice acid line, finishing bracingly dry, yet upholding freshness and purity. Zero dosage gives full
voice to pronounced salt mineral definition. This is a well-assembled zero dosage for champagne die-hards to drink with oysters."
