Champagne Delamotte
This Maison has been the next-door neighbour of the mighty Salon for over 100 years so it made sense that Salon and Delamotte unite their winemaking efforts which they did in 1988. This made sense from many angles. Salon are a well-known for making high-end, exclusive and expensive wines that age well and are destined to last decades. Delamotte have a broader range to accommodate the everyday drinker (yes they exist) to seductive Rosés and exemplary Blanc de Blancs, and so they should as they are in the heart of Côte des Blancs – Les Mesnil Sur Oger. This partnership caught the eye of Laurent-Perrier who decided to invest in these great families in 1989 and as such took over the winemaking duties as well. Delamotte is one to seek out if you have discovered you are a Blancs de Blancs lover and it is in fact the house’s aim to be the reference for this style in Champagne, which is no mean feat. If you are into Rosé, they make a very seductive Saignée version too. Current production sits at around 700,000 bottles.
An Exquisite Champagne, From The 5th Oldest Champagne House In The World
Founded in Reims in 1760, the House of Delamotte is the 5th oldest champagne house in the world, sister to the famous Champagne Salon winery and one of the houses of the Laurent-Perrier Group, of the most well-known and successful champagne brands in the world.
The House of Delamotte focuses on the production of Blanc de Blancs champagne as well as Brut and Rose and source their grapes from the same vineyard the Cote des Blancs as their sister Salon winery. Since 1988, the House of Delamotte is directed by Didier Depond in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a wine expert who is well known for his passion and dedication for finding and nurturing exceptional fine wines.
One of The Best Champagnes You’ve Never Heard Of – Forbes Magazine
Nick Passmore, resident Food and Drink expert and writer for Forbes.com, named Delamotte Champagne Brut among his list of “the best champagnes you’ve never heard of”, calling it a “Champagne of stature, of substance, a serious wine with a full Chardonnay personality.”
Nick is one of the world’s most revered wine consultants and writers. When he compliments the ageing of Delamotte Brut and refers to its flavour as the “toasty, nutty, warm-bread quality, and full, luxurious mouthfeel that sets it apart”, you know you are dealing with an exceptional brand of champagne.
Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Brut
The beautiful Blanc de Blancs Brut is aged for 4 years on lees. uses 20% reserve wines with a judicious 7 g/L dosage. The aroma offers soft citrus notes, which develops into stunning scents of fresh yoghurt and cream. The palate is toasty and creamy with patisserie and almond nougat aromas developed once this Brut champagne has been poured into a glass and allowed to settle.
Elegant, enlightening and ever so exquisite, Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Brut comes largely from the 2008 vintage, despite its NV marking, and so represents extraordinary value.
Delamotte Brut Rosé
Most rosés are either made through mixing a base wine with red wine before fermentation or through allowing the skins of the berries to soak with the juice to create a deep colour. Not the Delamotte Brut Rosé however – it follows a rather unique process, with both pinot noir 80% and chardonnay 20% co-pressed to create this highly indulgent fine wine. It’s a very different approach, used by only 2-3 other winemakers worldwide, but one that products and outstanding taste and aroma.
With notes of blood orange, pomegranate and lilac, it is incredibly fragrant. There are some smoky undertones, with a fresh, pure finish, deploying delicate flavours of ripe cherry, red liquorice, toast and singed orange peel.
It is four years aged on lees and ready to enjoy immediately, although could be further aged if desired also.
